"AFERIM, IAVRM. (Very good, my little child!)"
Little steps of cooperation to achieve reconciliation
Exhibition with works of Silvina Der-Meguerditchian in the space Bmsuma, Istanbul.
Direction: Beral Madra.

This exhibition will show a collection of moments and meetings that
the artist had since over 20 years that depicts her attempt to deal with memory, forgivness and reconciliation.

In the last 20 years she collected very carefully every contact that she had with Turkish people, some less positive as others, overcoming fear, negative prejudices and questioning the image of Turkish between hated and beloved, between object of rejection and object of desire, between heimlich and unheimlich… As result of this internal struggle she did also artworks that try to find a visual expresion for not enounced facts and feelings.

The show tryes to open a new context where a broader dialogue with artists, intellectuals and the public could happen in Turkey beyond official political recognitions. The dialog principle of the exhibition will be complemented by a two days conference: "Little steps of cooperation“ takes the exchange offer of the exhibition further to an open dialogue beyond the constraints of fixed political spellings. The topic will be the Armenian catastrophe, the "absence" of the "others" and the resulting trauma on both sides. To try to integrate the "other" back in the own self-image demands courage to confront with buried or denied facts, to identify and designate the own biography or the respective cultural context.

"Voulu/obligé" Outskirts of a small contradiction. From 5.04 till 15.10 2009.

Exhibition in the 53rd Venice Biennial, in the collateral event Krossing, Forte Marghera.

It is a project from Underconstruction, directed by Silvina Der-Meguerditchian, where can be explored some of the questions which they are concerned about: What does ‘being Armenian’, or an identity ‘under construction’ mean in the 21st century? Who are the Armenians anyway and how do they want to be seen by themselves and others? Can a virtual community of Armenian artists legitimate itself as a sustainable settlement? How possible is it to have meaningful dialogue with partners spread around the world? Is it possible to develop common goals and real, qualitative communication in virtual space?

The integrants of this exhibit are Achot Achot, Emily Artinian, Chtistopher Atamian, Archi Galentz and Silvina Der-Meguerditchian.

Participation in
Threading Cultural Space-less-ness
Groundbreaking Forum on the Armenian Diaspora

March 8th, 2008 brought together Armenian artists, writers, journalists and scholars to Columbia University’s landmark Lerner Hall (designed by Bernard Tschumi) to discuss the state of the Diaspora culture in a groundbreaking conference entitled: “Speaking Beyond Living Room Walls: The Armenian Diaspora and its Discontents.” The day-long symposium was organized by New York based independent critic/curator Neery Melkonian and a team of dedicated professionals.

The event, the first in decades to analyze, question and propose new directions for what was coined as ‘threading cultural space-less-ness’ of the Armenian diaspora, was a resounding success. A near-capacity auditorium was treated to 18 engaging presentations, grouped into two sessions, each followed by lively discussions among the panelists and with the audience which included members of the international press, cultural theorists, psychologists, businessmen, patrons of the arts, community activists and graduate students.
