KUNSTRAUM KREUZBERG /BETHANIEN - BERLIN
The artist Silvina Der Meguerditchian addresses the themes of memory, identity, migration, and language in her most comprehensive exhibition to date, highlighting music as an expression of cultural interconnections in the diaspora.
How do new forms of coexistence emerge in a (post-) migrant society? How can linking different forms of belonging open up possibilities for a future-oriented politics of remembering?
In Those who take care of us, Silvina Der Meguerditchian presents existing works alongside new productions created specifically for the exhibition: She weaves every- day objects, traditional textiles and personal artifacts into narrative landscapes that tell of displacement, cultural heritage, and resistance. In a multi-layered soundscape of Armenian, Spanish, French, German, and melodies from the musical instrument Qanun, she brings to life migra- tion experiences and transgenerational memories. She arranges narratives, interviews, photographs, and archive material into (video) collages, creating a poetic dialogue that oscillates between remembering and forgetting, presence and absence.
In the exhibition’s three chapters – Memory, Care, Resonances – Silvina Der Meguerditchian uses large- scale installations and immersive environments to open up a space for collective and performative experience, reflection, and exchange. Those who take care of us is a social and artistic practice that not only makes visible but also actively shapes a universal network of care and connection. This network spans generations, cultures, and lifestyles, suggesting a global responsibility – a connection that extends far beyond the visible.
